ATEX is derived from the abbreviations of “Explosive” and “Atmosphere”. The new ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU is related to equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and sets out the product requirements and reactions that products must exhibit under extreme conditions. In environments containing flammable gases or explosive dusts, this regulation requires that the fan equipment should not generate sparks and avoid possible ignition or explosion. Fans that do not generate sparks during such operations are generally referred to as explosion-proof fans.
